Despite some concerns and limitations, currently the benefits of the vaccine significantly outweigh the risks, so I encourage you to get it as soon as it is available to you, just as I have done.

Each unvaccinated healthcare worker is a potential “super spreader.”

That is why traditionally healthcare workers do receive most vaccines due to the nature and responsibilities of their jobs.  

1. A much higher percentage of healthcare workers have been infected with COVID-19 than those in other industries due to our increased exposure to the virus. 
2. A much higher percentage of healthcare workers have also received the COVID-19 vaccine. 
3. Healthcare workers have a responsibility not only to themselves but to others as well, since we interact with unwell people all day long, so unless we are vaccinated, we are transmitting the virus from one patient to another. 
4. We need to be considerate of our fellow healthcare workers because if we are not vaccinated and get COVID-19, we must be quarantined for 14 days, which puts a tremendous burden on our co-workers.  
5. If the average healthcare worker interacts with 20 people a day in clinic, and 1 in every 5 Americans currently carries the virus, unless we are vaccinated, we have a 400% chance of being exposed and transmitting the virus from one patient/co-worker to another, all day, every day.

Our nation is polarized. We seem to be unable to agree on anything. However, the recent riots and violence at the Capitol revealed something on which all of us do agree, i.e., in the greatest country on earth, democracy is what we as Americans deeply treasure.

Nations from around the world look to America for inspiration. We have shown that it is indeed possible to build a society based on equality and respect. No one is above the law.
